Frequently Asked Questions

Domains & Hosting

  • Can I get email addresses with my website?

Yes. Once your domain is set up and you have hosting with us, we can help you create your professional email addresses. For example john@yourdomain.co.uk

  • What’s the difference between .co.uk, .uk, and .com – does it matter?

These are endings (called TLDs) for your domain – think of them like postcodes! In Britain, .co.uk is the go-to for businesses (e.g., www.yourbusiness.co.uk) – it’s trusted and local. Also, .uk is shorter and works too, while .com is global, better if you’re eyeing customers abroad.

For your trade, .co.uk is usually perfect and looks proper British!

  • How do I pick a good domain name?

It’s all about keeping it simple! Use your business name (e.g., www.johnsplumbing.co.uk) or what you do (e.g., www.londonroofers.co.uk) – short, memorable, and local works best for trades like yours. If you search for your domain and it’s taken, we’ll suggest options like adding “uk” or your town. We’ll make sure it’s spot-on for you!

  • How much does a domain name cost, and who pays for it?

A domain name usually costs around £10-£15 per year, depending on the type (.co.uk, .uk) pretty affordable! You pay for the domain registration (we’ll help you choose one, like 123-Reg or GoDaddy), and we’ll handle the setup. We’ll sort it all out and have it linked to your site – no faffing about on your end!

  • Can I use a domain name I already own?

Yes, absolutely! If you’ve got a domain like “www.yourbusiness.co.uk” from somewhere else. Tell us your domain name, and we’ll connect it to your new site, launching it in 24-48 hours. You might need to tweak a setting with your provider (called DNS) – don’t worry, we’ll guide you through it step-by-step, no tech know-how needed! Our team can even offer remote support services if you get stuck.

  • What’s a domain name, and do I need one?

A domain name is your website’s address – like www.yourbusiness.co.uk, making it easy for people to find you online. If you do not have a domain name and want a custom address (e.g., www.johnsplumbing.co.uk), you can search for your perfect domain directly from our site and purchase.

  • What is hosting and why do I need it?

Hosting is like renting space on the internet for your website. Without it, your site can’t be seen by anyone. We offer optional hosting, or you can use your own.

Design Preview

  • Do I get support after the site goes live?

Yes. We offer optional support packages, and we’re always here to help with smaller questions too.

  • What if i have questions about the preview site before i buy?

We’re happy to answer all your questions, you can contact us via live chat (if we’re offline it’ll raise a support ticket, our team like to work as many hours as possible!). Feel free to drop us an email if you’d prefer on info@vividbeginnings.co.uk

  • Can I come back and finish later if I don’t complete checkout?

Yes. Your design is saved temporarily, but we recommend completing it soon to avoid starting again.

  • Can I see how my website will look before buying?

Yes! Our design tool gives you a live preview of your custom site before checkout. Simply follow the link you have received in your email and it’ll take you back to the preview where you can change the colour scheme and font style.

Payments & Pricing

  • Do I have to pay monthly to keep my site live?

No ongoing fees unless you choose hosting. Your website is a one-time cost.

  • Is there a monthly fee for my website?

No. You pay once for the website. The only monthly cost is if you choose optional hosting, maintenance package or our marketing plans.

Process & Setup

  • Do I need a logo before starting?

No, but a logo helps complete the look. We can use a placeholder or help design one if you’d like.

  • What’s included when I purchase my website?

You get full ownership, your completed website, and free hosting transfer if needed.

  • How long does it take to get my site?

We aim to have your website ready and live within 24 hours of your completed order. Sometimes it can take longer, this depends on whether you have a domain name or not, or if we have to ask you any questions.

  • What happens when I click “Secure This Design” on a preview i’ve received?

You’ll be taken to a personalised checkout page where you can select optional add-ons like hosting or SEO. Once the payment is complete, we’ll email you a welcome package and you can leave the rest to us.

Ownership & Control

  • Can I make changes to my website later?

Yes! You get one free round of changes to text and images, and we’ll provide simple guides so you can edit the site yourself too.

  • Can I use my own hosting provider?

Yes. Just skip the hosting add-on at checkout. We’ll send you your full website, ready to upload to your existing host.

  • Can I move my website to another host in the future?

Yes, absolutely. You’re free to move your website to any host at any time. Our hosting packages are all rolling 30-days, we’ll even help you compile the files and database for you to have an easy move.

  • Do I own my website after I buy it?

Yes, 100%. The website is fully yours. You’re not tied into any contracts, and you can move or change it any time you want, unlike many other well-known providers.

Features & Add-ons

  • Can I choose my own colours and fonts?

Yes! Our design tool lets you customise button colours, text style and layout (in predefined options). It’s designed to give you control without needing to be a designer. We can help you change the fonts to a custom style of your choice after.

  • Can I move my content somewhere else if I change providers?

Absolutely. Since you own the site, all content is portable. No vendor lock-in, no surprises.

  • Is my website future-proof?

Yes. Unlike basic builders that can limit growth, our websites are built with scalable tools. That means you can add new features, redesign elements, or grow into an online shop later without starting over.

  • Can I add new pages to my website later?

Yes! Your site is built with flexibility in mind. You can add new pages like a blog, gallery, or services section anytime – either yourself using our guide, or with our help.

  • What does “clean code” mean and why is it important?

Clean code means your site loads faster, performs better on Google, and is easier to maintain or upgrade in the future.

  • Can I add a shop or booking system to my site?

Yes, we can add extra features like a shop or booking system. Just let us know, this will be an extra cost. Talk to us about what you need and we’ll go through it together.

  • Will my website work on phones and tablets?

Yes. We develop every website to be fully responsive and works perfectly on desktop, mobile and tablet.

SEO & Performance

  • Do I need to update the site regularly?

Occasional plugin or system updates help keep things secure and running smoothly. If you host with us, we can take care of this. If you host it yourself, we’ll guide you through what needs doing – it’s easier than you think.

  • What’s the difference between a fast and slow website?

A fast website loads in 2 seconds or less and keeps users engaged. A slow one frustrates people and hurts your search rankings. We optimise for speed out of the box, so your site won’t drag its feet.

  • Are there other tools from Google I should know about?

Absolutely. Here are a few worth knowing (no IT degree required):

    • Google Search Console: Think of this as a health report for your website. It shows how you appear in search results and alerts you to any issues.
    • Google Tag Manager: Lets you manage tracking scripts and marketing tags without needing a developer.
    • Google PageSpeed Insights: Grades your website’s speed and suggests improvements — like a fitness tracker, but for your site.

We can help set these up or guide you through them if you’d like to nerd out (just a little).

  • What is Google Business and how does it help?

Google Business (formerly Google My Business) is your business profile on Google Maps and local search. It’s what shows up when someone types “bakery near me” and sees a list of local businesses. Having a fully optimised profile – with your hours, photos, reviews and a link to your website, makes your business more trustworthy and easier to find. It’s like the modern-day Yellow Pages, but prettier.

  • What is Google Analytics and why should I care?

Google Analytics is like CCTV for your website, minus the creepy part. It tells you who’s visiting, where they’re coming from, how long they’re staying, and what they’re clicking on.

Want to know if people are finding your site through Facebook? Or how many visitors check your contact page? This is the tool for that. It’s free, powerful, and helps you make better decisions without guessing.

  • Why is website speed important for SEO?

Speed matters. Google loves fast websites, and so do real people. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, users tend to bail. That tells Google your site isn’t providing a good experience. A fast site gets better rankings and happier visitors.

We build with clean code and optimised assets so your site doesn’t dawdle, it delivers.

  • What is SEO, really?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It’s the art (and a bit of science) of helping your website show up when someone Googles something related to your business. Imagine opening a shop on a high street – SEO is what puts your sign out front and tells people you exist. It’s not about tricking Google; it’s about structuring your site in a way that Google loves, and that helps people find what they need quickly.

  • Do you help with Google Business or Google Analytics setup?

Yes. As part of the SEO service, we can set up or optimise your Google Business Profile and connect Google Analytics for tracking.

  • What is the 1-month SEO service as the add-on and how does it help?

It includes keyword research, on-page SEO fixes (titles, images, structure), speed checks, mobile optimisation, and a performance report with tips for the future.

Security & Backups

  • Do I need to worry about hackers?

The internet isn’t the Wild West, but it’s still good to take precautions. Most hackers look for easy targets – outdated software, weak passwords, poorly built sites. With us, you’re already a step ahead. We keep things clean and secure, and if you’re using our hosting, we handle backups and basic protection so you don’t have to lose sleep over it.

  • What other ways is my website protected?

Alongside daily backups and SSL, we build your site using best-practice code that avoids bloat and vulnerabilities. We also make sure it’s compatible with trusted security plugins and protected from common threats like brute force login attempts. Think of it as locking the door, closing the windows, and having a digital guard dog that never sleeps.

  • How do backups work, and why are they important?

Backups are like the undo button for your website. If something goes wrong – a plugin misbehaves, a hacker gets in, or you accidentally delete half your homepage (we’ve all been there) – a backup lets us restore your site to a working version in minutes. If you’re hosting with us, we back your site up every single day. It’s a quiet hero in the background making sure your website can bounce back from almost anything.

  • What does SSL mean and why does my website need it?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer – but don’t worry, no need to dust off your IT degree. In simple terms, it’s a security feature that makes your website safe for visitors. It encrypts the data moving between your site and the user (like contact form info or login details). You know that little padlock next to a web address? That’s SSL at work. Without it, browsers may warn users your site is “not secure” – and nobody wants that kind of first impression.

  • Do you back up my website?

Yes, if you host with us. Your website is backed up daily using JetBackup so your data is always safe.

  • Will my website be secure?

Yes. All websites include SSL security, and if hosted with us, they’re also backed up daily.

Comparisons

  • Why not just use another builder?

Our websites load faster, give you full control, and don’t trap you in a monthly subscription. You pay once and it’s yours forever.

  • How is this different from using Wix, Squarespace or Shopify?

With us, you own your site completely. No platform fees. Our websites are faster, more flexible, and built with clean code that’s fully optimised for SEO.

Helpful Tech Translations

  • What is responsive vs adaptive design?

Responsive design reshapes your content dynamically to fit any screen size – it’s smooth and fluid. Adaptive design uses fixed layouts that change at specific breakpoints. We build responsive sites, which means they’re more flexible and work better on all devices.

  • What is a contact form and why use it instead of just listing my email?

A contact form lets people message you without exposing your email to spam bots. It looks cleaner and more professional too – plus you can add fields to collect just what you need (like name, phone number, enquiry type).

  • What’s a domain extension and does it matter if I use .com, .co.uk or .shop?

The domain extension is the bit after the dot. A .com is global, .co.uk is great for UK businesses, and .shop works well for online stores. It doesn’t change how your website works, it just helps set the tone.

  • What is mobile-first design?

Mobile-first design means we design your site to look and work beautifully on a phone before anything else. Why? Because that’s where most people visit from these days. It still looks amazing on desktops – just smarter from the ground up.

  • What’s the difference between HTTP and HTTPS?

HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP. It tells visitors that your site is protected and safe to use. You get the little padlock icon in the address bar. All sites we build include HTTPS automatically.

  • What is caching and why does it make my site faster?

Caching stores parts of your site so returning visitors don’t have to reload everything from scratch. It’s like your browser remembering the layout so it can show it faster next time. Great for speed and user experience – and yes, we handle that part for you.

  • What is a favicon and do I need one?

A favicon is the tiny icon that shows up in your browser tab next to your site name. It’s small but mighty – it makes your site look more professional and helps users recognise it easily. We can set one up for you.

  • What is a plugin and why would I need one?

A plugin is like an app for your website. Want to add a contact form, a shop, or booking calendar? There’s a plugin for that. We include the essential ones, and you can always add more later without touching any code.

  • What’s the difference between WordPress and a website builder like Wix?

WordPress is open-source and super flexible. It’s like owning a fully fitted kitchen where you can swap anything out. Wix is more like a prefab kitchen, easy to use, but harder to customise or expand without starting over.

  • What is responsive design and why does it matter?

Responsive design means your website looks great on phones, tablets and laptops. Since most people now browse on mobile, it’s crucial your site adapts to all screen sizes, and ours do it automatically.

  • What’s the difference between a domain, hosting, and a website?

Imagine your website is a shop. The domain is your shop’s street address, the hosting is the building you rent, and the website is what’s inside – the shelves, products, signs and layout.
