The short answer
A domain name is the address people use to find your website, such as yourbusiness.co.uk. It points visitors to the place where your website is hosted.
How it works
You register a domain through a domain provider for a period of time. It needs renewing to keep using it. Registration is separate from the website design and from hosting, even when one company supplies all of them.
If you already have an address, you can usually keep it for your new website. We change where it points when the new site is ready. Moving the website does not necessarily mean transferring the domain to another provider.
The same domain may also be used for your business email. Its settings need care so that launching a new website does not interrupt messages. We check that before making changes.
Your business should control the registration account and know when the domain renews. Make sure the contact email is one you can access. A website purchase does not give you permanent registration of its address.
Tell us your current website address and the company you bought it through. If you do not have a domain yet, tell us the name you would like. We will check what is available and agree the registration arrangements with you before launch.
Your next step
What we need from you
Your current domain and provider, or the address you would like to use. We will agree a secure way to arrange access.
