Is a Google Business Profile the same as a website?

The short answer

A Google Business Profile is your business listing on Google Search and Maps. Your website is separate, giving you space to explain your services and guide people towards an enquiry or booking.

How it works

How the listing and website work together

The profile can help people check your hours, read reviews and find contact details. Your website can then show more of your work, answer detailed questions and explain the services you offer. Linking the two helps someone continue from the listing to the relevant information.

The details should agree. Check your business name, phone number and the areas you genuinely serve. Opening hours and website links also need attention when the business changes. A new website does not automatically update every detail in a profile.

Ownership, eligibility and access

Eligibility and verification are controlled by Google. Its rules generally require contact with customers in person, either at your business or by visiting them. If you operate from home and do not receive customers there, the address arrangements need particular care.

Keep your business in control of the Google account that owns the profile. If you want us to help, we can agree the right access and the work required. We do not need you to post passwords or verification codes in a website brief.

A profile is not a guarantee of map placement or enquiries. It also does not replace SEO work on your own pages. Tell us whether you already have a listing so we can check the existing position, rather than create an unnecessary duplicate. Google's Business Profile guidelines explain the requirements.

Your next step

What we need from you

A link to your existing Google listing, the account owner if known, and whether customers visit you or you travel to them.
