The short answer
Google PageSpeed Insights helps you understand how a web page performs and where it could improve. Its performance score is a useful diagnostic, rather than a guarantee that every visitor will experience the same speed. The performance score is out of 100.
How it works
Test results and real visitors
The report can show a Lighthouse test performed under controlled conditions. Where enough information is available, it can also show measurements from real visitors. Those are different views of performance, so a single test score does not tell the whole story.
Phone and desktop tests use different conditions. Scores can change between runs because of the device, network or content being tested. A result should be read with its page address, test type and measurement date, rather than treated as a permanent certificate.
What helps a customer use the page
Large photographs, unnecessary scripts and external widgets can make a page heavier. Hosting can also affect delivery. The useful question is which changes would help a visitor see your work and contact you more easily, rather than how to chase a badge.
We keep performance in mind when building a website and explain any evidence we show. A score does not replace checking the enquiry form, reading the content on a phone or making sure the business information is correct. It also does not guarantee a Google position.
If you have a report you want us to review, send the full page address and the result. Google's PageSpeed guide explains the difference between its test and real-visitor measurements.
