What does “you own your website outright” mean?

The short answer

Once you have paid in full and your website has gone live, you own the finished website output. That includes the delivered design, words and website code, subject to any existing third-party rights.

How it works

There is no compulsory monthly website licence attached to keeping those files. You can keep using the website or take it to another developer. We provide an export of your complete website files without an export charge.

Ownership does not mean the website can run without hosting. It still needs a suitable place online and a working domain registration. You can choose our optional Care Plan or arrange those services elsewhere. Any provider you choose may charge for its services.

You own the delivered website, rather than the tools and systems our team used to create it. Our platform and hosting infrastructure remain ours. A connected booking service, payment account or licensed image may have its own terms, which continue to apply.

If you want to move, contact us before cancelling services that keep the site online. We can supply the files for your new host or developer. If you would like us to carry out the migration, we agree a separate quote first.

You do not need technical knowledge to claim ownership. Keep your purchase details and make sure your business controls the domain account. Our terms set out the full ownership conditions.

What we need from you

If you plan to use another host or developer, tell us before launch or before cancelling your current cover.
